Eustream announced procurement for the Slovak-Hungarian Gas Pipeline Interconnector

Eustream, the Slovak gas transmission system operator, announced the public procurement for the pipeline material and works for the Slovak-Hungarian Gas Pipeline Interconnector. Expected value of the contracts is estimated at 18 million euros.

The procurement process is another milestone in the project of the SK-HU Interconnector, following up previous documents signed by the parties including the agreement signed between the governments of Hungary and the Slovak Republic in January 2011.

The interconnection between the transmission systems of both countries is a priority not only for the both promoting companies, but also for the national governments and the European Commission.
The project will contribute to the European energy security and to the diversification of the transmission routes. The new cross-border capacity will enhance the liquidity of the gas market and options of deliveries of gas to the Central European region. The project is co-financed under the European Energy Program for Recovery (EEPR).

The planned Slovak-Hungarian interconnection of gas pipelines with the length of approximately 115 km (out of which up to 20 km in the Slovak territory) will connect high pressure pipeline systems between Veľké Zlievce on the Slovak side and the Hungarian municipality Vecsés in the suburbs of Budapest. The European Commission will grant a financial support in the amount of 30 million EUR.

The strategic importance of the project for Slovakia includes also the access of the country to the planned gas corridors from the south or to the LNG terminal in Croatia. The start of commercial operations is scheduled for 01 January 2015.
