Eustream is to intensify cross-border cooperation

Bratislava – The company eustream, a.s. participated in the official signing ceremony concerning the cooperation agreement between Austria and Slovakia on cross-border energy projects. Among other things, the aim of the intergovernmental initiative, which is supported by the company OMV on the Austrian side, is to strengthen the gas interconnection between the Slovak Republic and Austria in both directions. A respective Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the ministers of economy of both countries.

The project of interconnection with neighbouring transmission system operators has been officially included in the Economic Recovery Plan of Europe prepared by the European Council in December 2008. Eustream undertook to exert all effort to facilitate the interconnection of the Slovak and Austrian pipeline systems so as to allow the flow of natural gas in both directions. The company is now ready to meet the technical conditions for the eventual launch of reverse flow from Austria to the Slovak territory through Baumgarten. “Eustream supports and intensifies cooperation on the interconnection of transmission systems with neighbouring countries. Recently we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hungarian partners and now we have started intensifying further our cooperation with Austrian colleagues. These common steps contribute to increasing the security of gas supplies,” highlighted Andreas Rau, Chairman of the BoD of Eustream.

Eustream supports the intergovernmental cross-border initiatives. Enhancing cross-border gas transmission has been one of the company’s priorities since it started its activities as an independent operator in 2006. By means of closer cooperation with the other transmission system operators, the company is improving its own services in the sphere of gas transmission in the region. It contributes to the development of the gas market in the European Union and to the security of gas supplies to the EU countries.
