Meeting of the representatives of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and eustream a.s. to discuss the most important activities in the PL-SK interconnection project

A meeting was held on 10 April 2015 in Veľké Kapušany in Slovakia between the representatives of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and eustream a.s., the Slovakian transmission system operator.

The objective of the meeting was to discuss the most important organizational, legal / regulatory and technical activities being conducted by the two operators within the project of the interconnection of the Polish and Slovakian transmission systems. During the discussions, the Parties summarized their achievements within the pre-investment works, which has been ongoing since 2013, and discussed the actions planned for the near future. 
 
During the meeting, both Operators signed an Annex 1 to the Cooperation Agreement concluded in April 2014, which increased the range of pre-investment activities up to the obtainment of building permission by both parties of the project. Under the Annex, the parties will work together on the preparatory and engineering work, including spatial planning, environmental impact assessment, as well as obtainment of an environmental decision, the preparation of the necessary detailed designs (including the construction design) and the obtainment of the building permission.

The Poland–Slovakia Gas Interconnection Project assumes the construction of a new cross-border gas pipeline, which will connect the Polish and Slovakian natural gas transmission systems. It is considered a priority element of the concept of the North–South Corridor connecting the gas markets of the Central European countries. It is an important section from the point of view of increasing the diversification of gas supplies to Poland, as well as assuring energy security for Poland and the CEE Region. The project has been awarded the status of PCI (Project of Common Interest).
 
Decision on the cross-border cost allocation for the PL-SK project: Bearing in mind the provisions of Regulation 347/2013 (Regulation (EU) No 347/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2013 on guidelines for trans-European energy infrastructure) both companies submitted a joint Investment Request with the National Energy Regulatory Authorities in Poland and Slovakia on 31 October 2013. Coordinated decisions were agreed upon with the Polish and Slovak energy regulatory authorities regarding the cross-border cost allocation for the PL-SK interconnection project on 28 November 2014. 
EU co-financing: GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., together with eustream a.s., submitted an application for the co-financing of the studies and the construction works in the first Call for Proposals for the CEF on 19 August 2014. The European Commission published a list of projects eligible for co-financing from the CEF on 29 October 2014. The PL-SK interconnection project received co-financing for the studies at a level of 50% of the eligible costs.
